"Air Label Score" certification is based on all recognised national and international recommendations, standards, laws and regulations.
From Europe, through Germany, Finland, Japan, Singapore, etc. to the United States. More than 125 regulations and recommendations are followed, including among others:
WHO, OEL, AgBB, MAK, AGS, ACGIH, NIOSH, PEL, TWAEV, AFSSET, ANSES, OQAI, etc.
“Air Label Score” is the most advanced international certification in terms of the number of air quality standards incorporated.

Free-access scenarios based on ISO standards
Analyses based on recognised standards, with free access to the methodology.
The analysis methods used in the laboratories are based on the internationally recognised standards ISO16000-3, ISO16000-6, ISO16000-9 and ISO16000-11.
In addition to the ISO standards, “Air Label Score” experts, in conjunction with the staff of the laboratories, create analysis scenarios based on the type of exposure and the normal use of the product.

Consistent, clear, uncompromising ratings
When certifying a product, each volatile substance is analysed and quantified separately. Each of these substances is given a rating from A+ to C taking into account all international recommendations, regulations and standards.
A product’s final rating is that of the emitted substance with the worst rating. It is also influenced by other factors such as the total substances detected: a product for which each substance has been given a good rating may nevertheless be assigned a lower score if the total amount of substances represent high emissions.

Complete independence
It is essential for a label to be independent of any interest group in order to remain objective. This is why “Air Label Score” maintains its independence on all levels:
- Governments and institutions: the label does not receive any institutional funding and is not therefore influenced by any interest group;
- Laboratories: in order not to be both judge and jury, the label works with independent laboratories.

Certified, recognised, standardised laboratories
The partner laboratories have all the national and international certifications and accreditations necessary for the analyses. They are therefore:
- Accredited by the national accreditation bodies COFRAC for France or BELAC in Belgium;
- Certified and accredited to carry out analyses under ISO16000-11, ISO16000-9, ISO16000-6 and ISO16000-3, drawn up by the International Organisation for Standardization.

Products tested randomly every year
In order to verify that the certified products have not been intentionally or unintentionally modified, analyses are carried out on a random selection of products every year.
These checks are carried out on products bought from retail outlets or on samples taken in the factory or at the production site.

Use of the label
The certified companies undertake:
- To use the label only on products which are 100% equivalent to the composition of those analysed. Any difference in color, odour, density, etc. requires re-analysis.
- To comply with the label’s graphic charter.
- Not to create confusion in the consumer’s mind between their labelled and non-labelled products whatever the means of communication used.

Authenticity and signed declarations
The certified companies declare that the products collected from their premises, factories and sent for analysis are original products, are not denatured and are in their final versions.
The certified companies also agree, in the context of renewal of the label, to sign a declaration attesting that the composition of the product has not been modified.

Modification of composition
The certified companies undertake in the case of modification of the composition of a product, however small this may be, to notify “Air Label Score” in writing in advance.
The certified companies will indicate whether they wish new analyses to be carried out. If it is decided not to carry out a new analysis, the label cannot be used on the new product.

Penalties
The certified companies are subject to penalties if they do not fulfill their undertakings. 50% of the amount of such penalties, which are defined in the collaboration agreement, are reinvested in associations working in the pollution clean-up sector.

“Air Label Score” guarantees consumers the best available information on the emissions of products into indoor air. Products tested are given a score between A+ (very low emissions) and C (high emissions), which represents their emission level.
