UK consumers, aware and calling for change
The British are particularly concerned by air pollution, a problem that costs up to £19 billion every year and claims the lives of 29,000 people only in the UK.
- People spend on average up to 90% of their time indoors (at home, at the workplace, at school, on transports...).
A study by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health has shown that British children spend just 68 minutes a day outdoors! - All that time, we are exposed to many potentially hazardous substances from everyday objects. One of the main potential sources are scented and cleaning products whose emissions are not verified by laboratory analysis.
- Most people know that their health is affected by indoor air pollution, and want to take an active part against this kind of global problems, for example, through the way they consume.
Around one third of consumers has “stopped purchasing certain brands or products because they had ethical or sustainability related concerns about them”.
Air Label Score has heard the concerns of British consumers and their need for a reliable benchmark to guide their consumption decisions: we are pleased to present some of the most promising results from our recent consumer survey in the UK.

The Air Label Score seal generates a significant increase in purchase intention; up to 47% of respondents prefer an air-labelled product rather than an uncertified one.
And this holds true even if they have to pay more for it! Up to 25% of consumers are willing to pay 5 to 15% more for an air-labelled product.
